Online Roulette Games
Roulette is perhaps one of the most popular casino games in the world. Why? Because it is relatively easy to understand. Even if you have never played the game before, we are positive that you could just hop into a game of online roulette, not read the rules, and still have a rough idea about what is going on.
You may not know what the payout rate is for each bet, but you should have a fair idea about what is happening. What many people do not realise is that there are several different types of roulette.
We want to run you through them on this page and of course, being a site that is largely about online blackjack, we have joined forces for some help from one of the most respected online roulette guides www.bestonlineroulette.com to give us a low down!
European roulette is the preferred way to play roulette. There are 36 numbers on a European roulette wheel. In addition to this, the numbers on the reels are ‘random’. So, there is going to be no real rhyme and reason as to the position of the numbers.
American roulette has 37 numbers on the reel. It has an extra 00 which does swing the odds ever so slightly towards the house. This means getting your evens bets are going to be a bit trickier to hit. The numbers are laid out in a specific way. The opposite number will always be the opposite colour and just one number off (i.e. Red 27 is opposite Black 28)
We could really just lump French roulette into European roulette. This is because the wheel is exactly the same. The only real change is that the layout of the betting table is different. You have the same bets, but you will need to pay a bit more attention. Oh yes, and the layout of the table is also in French. And red. Time to put those GCSE lessons to good use!
Live Dealer Roulette
If you want the ‘ultimate’ way to play roulette, then you absolutely should consider playing live roulette. This is where you watch a dealer on a webcam, often based in a real casino, who will spin the reel for you. It is as close as you can get to gambling in a real casino without leaving the comfort of your own home.
The way in which live roulette plays is exactly the same as if you were playing roulette against the computer. The only difference is that it is going to be more of a social experience. The live dealer can talk to you. If you have a microphone, you can even talk to them back (no, you do not need to be on webcam).
It is worth noting that live roulette will have a slightly higher minimum bet, mostly because the dealer needs to have their wages covered. This will likely be a couple of quid, which is not too bad if you are serious about winning at roulette.
Casinos are always looking for new ways in which they can make money. If you play your cards right, then you could feasibly break even if you play roulette (although, this is going to be dependent on the limit of the table) and the casinos do not want this. As a result, they have come up with several variations of roulette which aim to swing the edge a bit further towards the house.
The wheel is the same, but there are various side bets that you can take advantage of. We are not going to go into the roulette variations on this page, mostly because there is so many of them, but do keep an eye out if you want to experience a slightly more unique game of roulette.
Choosing the Game That is Right For You
European roulette. Always European roulette. If somebody comes up to you and tells you to play American roulette, tell them no. The chances of winning are much smaller BUT the odds are the same. It is quite annoying. So, always play European roulette. You can play some variation of it with the various side bets, but the wheel should always be European.
